The Purpose:

To inform the church family of moral, social, legislative, and public issues, and to lead the congregation in actions consistent with biblical principals.

"Ye are the salt of the earth..  Ye are the Light of the world..  Let your light so shine before men;  that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."     Matthew 5:13-15 (KJV)

The Plan

I.  Identification
Identify those whom we want to become more socially and politically involved.  What are their social concerns relating to family, community, national, and international life?
II. Information
Provide our target audience with facts and information regarding the social and moral issues of concern to them,  Then broaden that information to the spectrum of issues relating to justice in the public square.
III. Interest
If we are providing relevant, accurate, and reliable information in a format of professional quality, people's interests will be piqued.
IV. Involvement
When we touch people with information that affects their lives, we will have an opportunity to move them to some level of action or involvement.
V.  Investment
Involvement reflects the highest degree of commitment to the cause, because there is a willingness to contribute one's time, talents, and treasure.  This level of commitment has been cultivated over a period of time in order to bring increased social and political consciousness, vision, and involvement in our church.

Being Salt and Light

  • Public speaking skills for school board meetings?
  • Are you concerned about the moral issues of our day, such as poverty, abortion, national defense, capital punishment, economic policies, genetic research, euthanasia, school curriculum, etc.?
  • Do you have the skills to write letters-to-the-editor, legislators, or advertisers of offensive media programming?
  • Are local legislator's voting records of interest to you?
  • Are you willing to pray for elected officials?
  • Are you qualified to run for elected office or serve on a local governing board or council?
  • Have you discovered your calling from God? What has moved you? What has assaulted your sense of justice or fairness, even though you may have no experience on a particular subject?
  • Draw the line in the dust and take your stand for righteousness in an area of interest to you.

...to meet people where they are and to lead them to become like Jesus...
