After five years of being a member of Pole Creek and experiencing friendship and love, I am blessed by the new opportunity of serving as the Children's Minister. It's my desire to lead our children to know the deep love of God, to call Him Father, to know His Son as Savior, and to use His Word as their daily guide for making good choices. Training up my own children has been one of the most challenging tasks I've ever had, requiring a selflessness that does not come naturally for me. Yet, God clearly sets parenting as a high priority in the life of a believer. In Deuteronomy 6, God instructs, "And these words which I command you today shall be on your heart; you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up..."
I personally believe that the early years of a child's life are critical years for learning faith truths, family values, and discipline. When Moses' mother had weaned him and returned him to the Egyptian Pharoah's palace, this little boy knew who he was. When Hannah left Samuel with Eli the priest that promised day, her little boy knew who he was and Whom he served. Joseph, David, Daniel, Esther--all faithful Old Testament teenagers whose faith in God was grounded at an early age--remained true in tough times and served the Lord. Our children can, too.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as a minister to your boys and girls. I can't wait to see how they grow as we partner together.
Your Sister in Christ,
Karen Holcomb
